Oisín's Campaign
"Every Drop Counts, I Know"
Oisín Kelly, a member of Naomh Eoin GAA in Carlow, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in 2021, and after a lengthy battle, he sadly passed in August 2023. Throughout his illness Oisín received many blood and platelet transfusions, and he and his family learned that many cancer patients require blood and platelet transfusions as part of their treatment – this was a vital part of the treatment for Oisín. He aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, especially among young people.
Team up to save lives!
Just 3% of the eligible population gives blood, even though one in four people will need a transfusion in their lifetime. The average donor age is 46. We're urging young people within GAA communities and sports clubs to begin giving blood and make it a consistent part of their lives.
