World Blood Donor Day
World Blood Donor Day 2024 - June 14th!
Every year on the 14th of June we celebrate World Blood Donor Day and thank our donors for giving blood, platelets and bone marrow to help save lives. The theme for 2024 is “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!”
The 20th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day is an excellent opportunity to thank blood donors across the country for their life-saving donations over the years and honour the profound impact on both patients and donors.
We take this opportunity to thank and recognize the incredible voluntary blood donors who have contributed to the health and well-being of people in need around the country.
How you can support World Blood Donor Day
Give Blood
If you are eligible to donate blood, please give an hour of your time to this life-saving act. The actual blood donation only takes a few minutes and once you are finished you can enjoy some refreshments knowing you have helped someone in need.
Give Platelets
We always need new platelet donors in our Cork and Dublin centres. Check your eligibility and help fight cancer!
Spread the Word
If you can’t donate blood or don’t have the time, you can really make an impact by spreading the word about the importance of giving blood. Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to give blood. Many people are not aware of how easy the process is and so spreading the word in your local community really helps.
