Blood Donors kick Off World Cup Support

Mick McCarthy and members of the Irish Football Team today launched a Supporter’s Book for Blood Donors who wish to register their support for the Irish Football Team before they head off to Japan. All Blood Donors coming in to give blood for the coming weeks can sign the Supporters Book at their local blood donor clinic. The Book will then be presented to the Team before they leave for the Far East.

Irish Team Manager Mick McCarthy said he was delighted to be associated with the Blood Transfusion Service in Ireland. "Giving blood is a very worthy cause and the Irish Team are very pleased to receive this level of support from a group of people who are heroes in their own right."

Blood Service CEO Martin Hynes said he hoped that people would not forget to give blood during the World Cup as donations had dropped approximately 20% during Ireland’s last outing at the World Cup. "Reaching the games is a fantastic achievement for Ireland and of course we hope that the Team go as far as they can. However, we will be keeping a close eye on the level of support our Blood Donor Clinics receive throughout the Irish Team’s World Cup campaign!"
