Blood donation clinic back in Garda Training College today after almost 4 years absence

The IBTS blood donation clinic is making a reappearance at the Garda Training College in Templemore after an absence of almost 4 years.  The clinic takes place today (Tuesday) 7th April.

“The last blood donation clinic we had here in the Garda College, Templemore was in August 2011.  The Gardai have proven to be great ambassadors for the IBTS, they understand first hand the importance of blood donation.  Once training is complete and the newly qualified Gardai are posted all over the country, they continue to support and encourage blood donation in local communities,” said Stephen Cousins, National Donor Services Manager.

The clinic will also give the new garda recruits an opportunity to join the Bone Marrow Registry.  The Registry nurse will attend the clinic and take an additional blood sample for specialist testing for those interested in joining the Registry. “Bone marrow or blood stem donation donors can help save lives of patients in Ireland and abroad who are in need of a transplant," said Dr Diarmaid O Donghaile, Director of the Irish Unrelated Bone Marrow Registry.
