Amniotic Membrane

Amniotic membrane is the innermost layer of the placenta. It consists of a thick basement membrane and an avascular stromal matrix. It is mainly used for corneal surface reconstruction and persistent corneal epithelial defects.

This is the membrane sac which surrounds the heart and vessels close to the heart. It may be used to cover exposed scleral buckets and glaucoma drainage devices.

Autologous Serum Eye Drops

Autologous serum is used in the form of eye drops for the treatment of severe ocular surface disorders e.g. severe dry eyes. These drops are used to treat patients who do not respond to conventional treatment. The Tissue Bank is responsible for the primary processing of the serum which is then sent to the NBC in Liverpool for the secondary phase of processing.
