IBTS advises hospitals that blood supplies will resume tomorrow

The National Medical Director of the IBTS, Dr William Murphy today (Monday) notified hospitals that the IBTS would be in a position to resume blood supplies to hospitals from tomorrow.

Over the past 5 days there has been a very strong response from blood donors.
As a result we are now in a position to resume blood supplies to hospitals from tomorrow, 14th June 2005.

"We very much regret the disruption and inconvenience that the shortage caused to patients and to hospitals," said Dr Murphy.

The IBTS needs 3,000 donations a week, every week to meet patients needs.  While we are very grateful for the wonderful response from the public which will allow hospitals to resume normal activities, the supply remains tight and we urge people to continue to donate in the coming weeks so that there is not a reoccurrence of the blood shortages of last week.
