I started to give blood when I was 18 years old and I gave so often that they asked me to consider giving platelets. At a Donor Award night a few years ago, attended by those who had given platelets and blood for years, a cancer survivor told her story about when she would receive platelets as part of her treatment. She read extracts from her diary in which she thanked those anonymous people who had helped save her life. It was then that I realised that by giving platelets I really was making a difference. To help to give people their health back is, in my view, an honour and I will continue to give platelets as long as they are needed. Jeff – Blood & Platelet Donor since 1989, 113donations to date |
